WHY BRITISH LABS

We just love them. In England and Ireland, hunting and retrievers are a bigger business than here in the U.S. They have large wing shoot's and a retriever may pick up several hundred birds in one day. These dogs remain calm and are rock solid every time. How do they achieve this? They use a training method that are time tested, true, and by using a common sense training program. Obedience, obedience, obedience, is number 1, and their dogs may not pick a bird up for his first 2 years. They teach their dogs not to retrieve until sent.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BRITISH LAB
The British labs is known world wide for the great game finding ability, intelligence, calm nature, and easy trainability. They are quick learners, very gentle, calm, they love water, have a soft mouth, have excellent noses for game finding ability, and are extremely loyal to their owner and family. They make excellent family pets and can still perform as an awesome retriever.

GENERAL CONFIRMATION
A British lab is very strong, and has excellent endurance. British labs have a muscular short back, powerful hindquarters, their heads are moderately square without alot of length, with flat ears. They are slightly shorter than the American lab standing between 21-23 inches and weigh generally between 55 to 65 pounds. Their undercoat is extremely dense and is highly water repellent. Their tails are thick and rounded.  Some of the tails and collars are slightly fanned.

TEMPERAMENT

A British Labs temperament is impressive. British labs have a quiet nature, are extremely loyal, extremely intelligent, calm, easy to handle, and have an impressive willingness to please. They are sinsitive and don't handle loud handling or yelling.

COLOR

The British labs come only in four colors:

Black
Yellow
Chocolate
Fox Red - which is extremely rare.

What to expect from a started or seasoned dog from Muddy Paws Kennels.

Breeding:  Your dog will be bred from some of the finest British and/or Irish working bloodlines.  The Sire and Dam will be Seasoned working dogs that have picked up Dove, quail, Pheasant, Duck and Geese.  The Sire and Dam will be OFA certified and have a current CERF (eye) exam.  One thing is for certain, a dog from one of our breedings will have an inherent desire to hunt and retrieve game.

Your dog will be AKC registered and carry a full registration.

Training:  At Muddy Paws Kennels, we do not train field trial or hunt test dogs.  We train hunting Labrador Retrievers / Gundogs.   In order to accomplish our goal, we use techniques that are somewhat different from those techniques normally used.  There is a heavy emphasis placed on obedience and developing the dogs natural game finding ability.  Our dogs are not discouraged from using their natural game finding abilities.

Our dogs are developed to retrieve downed game in the most efficient manner that they can.
